Red Dead Redemption 2 is an emotional rollercoaster to say the least and despite it being over five-years since it was first released, its ending is no less heartbreaking. However, with an added secret in the epilogue that many of us might have missed, the tears are only going to get worse.

As you can probably expect, this article is about to get into spoiler territory but for those who already know, the final events of Red Dead Redemption 2 see our favourite grumpy cowboy, Arthur Morgan, die. After contracting tuberculosis, he finally succumbs to his illness in the game’s final acts (or is violently shot if player’s honour is low enough) and control is handed back over to his predecessor, John Marston.

Check out the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer below!

After this emotional end and with tears in your eyes, you will see the world from John’s view from the epilogue onwards but it is during this time that you can stumble across a hidden yet heartbreaking secret.

Located east of Donner Falls and northeast of Bacchus Station in Ambarino, you will be able to find Arthur’s grave and sit a while reflecting on the events of Red Dead Redemption 2. With you playing as Arthur through the game’s entirety and surviving death more than once, it is a shocking end to the Rockstar title but being able to spend the end of the game beside him is some comfort.

Accompanied by a slow and melancholic version of Unshaken by D’Angelo, John will open up his inherited journal and sketch the grave alongside the words: “Guess we’re just about done, my friend. It’s been quite a journey”.

As something of a message both to Arthur and the player at the end of the game, the heartbreaking secret is just another nod to Arthur Morgan himself who many players consider one of the best protagonists of all time. With his story over, let us just be glad we were a small part of it.
