Red Dead Redemption 2 Looks Fully Next-Gen in New Overhaul

A new overhaul for Red Dead Redemption 2 has given the game a massive makeover, to the point where it looks like a next-gen game.

It may be nearly seven years old, but Red Dead Redemption 2 consistently proves to be one of the best-looking games of all time. The graphical detail and art direction simply remains unmatched.

However, despite rumours and leaks suggesting otherwise, Rockstar Games still hasn’t confirmed a next-gen port for the game on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.

I’m sure it’s only a matter of time until it does, but in the meantime we can check out this incredible graphics overhaul that makes the game look even more delicious than it already does.

As uploaded by Digital Dreams, a digital artist and game modder whose content is geared towards sharing graphics overhauls of popular games, Red Dead Redemption 2 has just received an incredible overhaul that makes it look like a PS6 game.

In particular, take a look at the water effects. The waves hitting against the rocks look so realistic, that we can’t believe this is all in-game graphics and not real life.

Using a combination of ReShade and a few other graphical features, Digital Dreams has been able to make the game look new and fresh, something we didn’t think was possible. In total, over a hundred mods have been installed to give it this look.

If you’re thinking of installing these mods for yourself to get the game looking like this, beware that you’ll need an extremely powerful PC to get it running smoothly.

Digital Dreams’ hardware includes a Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, an RTX 5090 graphics card, and 64GB of RAM. Altogether, it’s a very chunky combination of hardware, and your PC might melt if you try these mods without the right specs.

Still, if you want to go ahead and try, you can get the full modlist from the video description here.

In related Red Dead Redemption 2 news, Rockstar has officially confirmed Halloween DLC for the multiplayer. Over the festive period, you’ll be able to participate in All Hallows’ Call to Arms and gain triple RDO$, Gold, and XP, along with some other bonuses.

Meanwhile, rumours about the alleged Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports have cropped up again, with a recent change to the game’s Steam page suggesting that an enhanced or remastered version of the game could be in the works.
