A new fan-made remaster for Red Dead Redemption 2 has just dropped, and it looks fantastic.

Red Dead Redemption 2 fans love the game so much, they hate that it’s still locked to the last generation in terms of visuals and performance.

You may be able to play the game at 4K and 60 frames-per-second on PC, but this isn’t the case on console. It still looks gorgeous, mind you, but it won’t unlock its fullest potential until we get native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.

Still, for the time being we can at least imagine what a new-gen remaster of Red Dead Redemption 2 could look like on modern hardware, and that’s where this new fan-made mod comes in.

This can be seen in a video published by YouTuber Digital Dreams, a digital artist whose content is primarily all about pushing their graphics card to the limit by modding their games to have cutting edge visuals.

The video features some gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 that has been modded in the same way, enhancing the graphics in a way that makes it look like a game released for the current generation.

Digital Dreams is running the Vestigia 2 Mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 which rebuilds the game’s environment to make it look prettier and more realistic.

They’re also using other mods to introduce ray-tracing, enhanced textures, and better detail to the game, essentially turning into something that looks truly next-gen.

Take a look at the video for yourself below, and marvel at the pure magic that is being performed here.

“7 years old game but in terms of quality it still looks insanely great, also runs on my old GTX 1060 at medium settings,” reads one comment made under the video. “So it's not only about having the best graphics but also making it optimised enough to support entry level GPUs.”

An official Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster from Rockstar has been rumoured for a while, though nothing concrete has been announced yet.

Rockstar Games previously launched an enhanced version of GTA V for new-gen consoles and PC in 2022, and will launch the current-gen upgrades of the first Red Dead Redemption tomorrow, 2 December.

However, it still remains to be seen whether Red Dead Redemption 2 will get the same treatment, or if it'll remain stuck on last-gen systems.
