GTA 6 Be Damned, Red Dead Redemption 2's Next-Gen Remaster Finally on Horizon

We've waited long enough

It looks as if Red Dead Redemption 2 may be set to receive a new-gen remaster after all.

You may recall this was rumoured to be the case earlier this year.

Various insiders surfaced claiming that the hit Rockstar Games title would receive a new-gen update adding a 60fps functionality to the game amongst other things.

It was suggested that the update might not arrive until autumn, filling in the gap left behind by Grand Theft Auto VI’s delay.

As such, the rumours somewhat faded into oblivion with no official word surfacing.

Whilst we’re still lacking that official word, renewed hope has appeared for Red Dead Redemption 2 fans.

Prominent leaker NateTheHate claims that the new-gen update does still exist alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the title.

The only problem is that he doesn’t know when they’re due to launch, so we’re still in the dark on that front.

“Yes, they exist. I have no update on timing for release,” he wrote on Twitter/X.

That isn’t quite the end of the story though.

In recent days, Rockstar Games reportedly changed Red Dead Redemption 2’s Steam store page description for the first time since 2019, also editing various page assets and the list of supported languages.

Twitter/X users BeskInfinity was able to secure evidence of that.

It’s for that reason that while I’d usually urge you to take a leak like NateTheHate’s with a pinch of salt, it really does appear as if something is in the works here.

There’s no other reason, that I can personally think of, that explains why else Rockstar would update Red Dead Redemption 2’s Steam page after six years.

Needless to say, fans are excited for what appears to be on the way.

“RDR2 was amazing on last gen. I can't wait to see how it looks with updates for this gen,” wrote Reddit user Particular_Hand2877.

“Hope it's soon! Recently got the itch to play it and was so close to buying,” added Mavericks7.

There’s no word on whether a new-gen update would be free or not; you’d hope for the former, but it’s not a guarantee.

It’s perhaps worth pointing out that the game celebrates its seventh anniversary on 26 October, so perhaps that’s a date worth keeping an eye on.

Should a new-gen update or a Nintendo Switch 2 port be announced, we’ll be sure to bring that news to you.
