Red Dead Redemption 2 has a chilling open-world encounter most of us never actually saw

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a scary secret regarding the cult you can encounter out in the open world.

Like previous Rockstar games, Red Dead Redemption 2 features several open world secrets and events you can discover while wandering around and running your errands.

One such event is a cult who you can encounter on a side mission, who are ominously stood by an enormous cliff edge.

After giving a short sermon the leader asks his friends to follow him, before they all leap off the cliffs to their deaths, which the player can join in with if they choose to.

It’s very Midsommar, and while it’s disturbing enough for a group of people to go on a one-way trip off a ledge there’s a secret to the encounter that makes things even creepier.

Reddit user PotatoCase shared a clip of encountering the cult while they’re getting ready for their swan dive of demise.

Instead of approaching, the player stayed far back and sniped the leader, which with most groups of NPCs would cause them to panic and flee the scene as quickly as possible.

However when the cult leader died, the rest of them seemingly treated it as the starting pistol in an Olympic race, as they charged off the cliff as fast as they could even though their leader hadn’t done it first.

One commenter was very disturbed, saying, “It's almost like they knew what to do in such a scenario,” with another replying, “After doing multiple tests, it is damn near impossible to stop them from dying.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t short of its creepy moments, though here’s hoping GTA VI has even more disturbing scenarios and secrets to uncover in its open world.
