The new age of the best evolving game of all time is in full flow, and now, with one of its iconic DLCs dropping, you can get a full weekend of free access across PS5, Xbox, and PC.
As far as RPGs go, developers pour so much effort into making their base game as fulumptious as possible, the post-launch content is few and far between - you need only look at The Witcher 3, which has only just announced its third content drop 15 years after release.
But Path of Exile is different. The original title had 38 expansions packs over 13 years, and the sequel is heading in the same direction.
Celebrating Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients, the game's fourth major DLC since its Early Access launch in 2024, Grinding Gear Games has announced a free weekend of action on all platforms.
All in all, Path of Exile 2 and its expansion packs usually cost players £23, as it currently operates in an Early Access model that gives the most devoted players the chance to get their hands on exclusive customisation features.

While it plans to go free-to-play in its full release this year, you can get a taste of the action from 28 May to 1 June 2026, with a completely open weekend of gameplay.
"You will get access to all the content currently available in Path of Exile 2, including the newly released Return of the Ancients Content Update," reads the developer blog.
"There are no limits to character levelling, and all progress made during this period will be saved to your account. When the Free Weekend ends, you can continue playing by purchasing an Early Access key or by waiting until Path of Exile 2 becomes free to play at full release."

Dubbed as the 'biggest update ever' for the franchise, which is some feat considering the massive portfolio of content drops prior, Return of the Ancients might be the best time to dip your toe into the ever-evolving game.
The new DLC offers six endgame storylines with huge bosses and crafting systems,
Its base game is already extraordinary enough. In our review in 2024, the 'Exceptional' title scored 9/10 and left us completely wowed by the endless possibilities.
"We’ve got passive skills for days, gems to be socketed into that same board to bolster skills, and a ludicrous combination of abilities to create characters that break from the norm of class structure," we wrote.
"A monk isn’t just a monk when they can channel magic if they choose; a rogue can heft a large weapon with the right skill points. It’s all possibilities."
A 2025 Game of the Year contender that only gets better with time, what's stopping you from enjoying an incredible world this weekend?
