Last week, the lineup of classic PlayStation titles coming to PS Plus’ upcoming Premium subscription tier was revealed in a huge list posted on the PlayStation blog, and I think it’s safe to say most of us were left feeling very underwhelmed. Extra tier’s selection of PS4 and PS5 games is actually pretty damn decent (assuming you haven’t already played them, that is), including the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Demon’s Souls, so looking further down the list to see (checks notes) Hot Shots Golf and I.Q. Intelligent Qube was pretty disappointing.
However, it seems that Sony weren’t just going to throw some debatable games with basic emulation options our way. As reported by PushSquare, it’s been revealed that the games are coming with some really cool new features on the modern consoles.
Before we get into it, check out our top 10 PS1 titles below - hopefully we'll see some of these come to PS Plus eventually, too.
Excitingly, it seems some PS1 games will now feature online multiplayer. One of the launch titles, Worms World Party, is one of these - on the PlayStation store, the game’s description reads: “All modes are available offline, online, or a mixture of both!” Unless this is a mistake, it certainly seems that we’ll be able to play online, which will obviously be a first for the title.

Not only that, but we’re apparently going to be getting some sweet display options. PushSquare report that we’ll be able to play at native resolution, stretched (just because you can, doesn’t mean you should), and at 4:3 for 16:9. Cooler than that though, are the filters - we’ll be able to pick from three different looks: Default (which is self-explanatory), Modern (which looks a bit smoother, as you’d expect) or Retro Classic, which makes it look like you’re playing on a CRT screen, perfect for a boost to your nostalgia-levels. We don’t have too long to wait now until we can try these out for ourselves - the overhauled service launches on 13 June in America, and 23 June in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Better yet, a recent leak from the PlayStation Malaysia store suggests that many of the classic games will be available to purchase completely standalone for around around $5-7 without the need for a PS Plus subscription. Pricing for the individual games has yet to be confirmed here in the UK, but if this is any indication, that's a great sign.
