PlayStation quietly makes classic PS1 games available on PS5, no PS Plus needed

Some of you might even not have to pay for them either (if you're lucky)

Two classic PlayStation games are finally available for purchase on modern PlayStation systems, after previously being locked behind a subscription.

Shout out to Ed Nightingale over on Eurogamer for the original source!

As of the 26th of March, Resident Evil: Director's Cut and Dino Crisis can now both be bought on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 systems.

Don’t be concerned if you’re getting an odd feeling of deja vu reading that. Both of these titles could be downloaded on modern PlayStations as of last month, but you had to be a PlayStation Plus Premium subscriber to actually get access to them.

Now you can just drop £7.99 to snag them, or less than £14 to grab both. That’s almost as much as a £13.49 monthly PlayStation Plus Premium subscription anyway, so if you were subbed just to play these titles you can go ahead and cancel.

However, if you’re a PlayStation ride or die, you might be surprised to find out these titles could be available to you for the low, low price of… free.

As user Astral_Strider noticed over on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit, some of you might already own both Resident Evil: Director's Cut and Dino Crisis on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 systems.

“I already own licenses for both games on my PS3 so them PS4/5 versions are now free to download on my account,” user Astral_Strider revealed, “Go, me!”

Go you indeed. If you’re a PlayStation 3 OG, make sure you have a browse through the PlayStation Store to see if you already own both of these classic PS1 titles.

Hopefully, this news means that Dino Crisis 2 might be making its way to modern PlayStations soon. Would also be nice if Capcom just made a new Dino Crisis too, but I won’t hold my breath for that.
