A highly anticipated remake from the Assassin’s Creed studio, Ubisoft, may have confirmed the worst fears for many gamers.

Alongside the likes of Far Cry and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed is one of Ubisoft’s biggest properties and with rumours continually circulating that a remake for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is in the works, fans have every reason to be excited.

However, the yet-to-be confirmed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake is not the only remake project in the works, because Ubisoft also has Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Yet, you’d be forgiven if you totally forgot that the latter two even exist.

Ubisoft announced the remake of 2002’s Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell in 2021, but since that time, we’ve had no update. No trailer, no release date or window. Nothing. Well, at least officially.

As for the remake of 2003’s Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, this was announced by Ubisoft in 2020 and was intended to be released in 2021. Unfortunately, this game has had a troubled development, with production restarting in 2022, and it’s been pretty much all downhill from that point.

Recently, leaks have been making the social media rounds (which aren't too difficult to find), revealing gameplay from an early build, completely redesigned character models and gameplay changes.

Prince of Persia concern?

I’ve seen some of the leaked images of the redesigned characters of the Prince and Farah, and I can hand on heart say that it’s left me feeling concerned.

As for changes to gameplay, one aspect that I did appreciate was that Farah is reportedly not a character you need to babysit. In the original game, you had to protect her, but now she will apparently fight battles alongside you. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always hated trying to keep an AI alive in video games.

It was also reported earlier this week that we might get a new update on the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, and maybe a trailer at The Game Awards taking place on 11 December 2025, and it could be released next year.

That being said, as much as many fans would love to see the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake see the light of day, with its troubled development, understandably, many fans also have concerns.

‘'Character designs have been completely remade,’ and that right there confirms my worst fears regarding the remake,” exclaimed Reddit user xXDibbs.

The Reddit user was referring to a post made by a Prince of Persia fan account on Twitter, to which the official account had replied. The Redditor elaborated further, expressing their concerns in detail.

“I agree with you. I want the characters to look like updated versions of what they did in the original game. I don't like the new models,” replied Tropikoala815.

“Now we all wait to see what they cooked,” said TheRawShark.

It should be stated that there are a lot of Prince of Persia fans in the thread excited by recent events, but as history has often dictated with games stuck in limbo, many also have good reason to be concerned.

Once Ubisoft drops new details on the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
