Last month Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a brand-new range of gaming gear which aimed squarely at PC players.

While this is clearly a move designed to bridge the gap between PlayStation and PC users, the company has now made it clear this hardware is for "hardcore PC gamers" all the way.

It's clear to see that the new InZone range of PC gaming hardware, consisting of high-end desktop gaming monitors and headsets, means business. This is Sony's first attempt at flogging PC hardware since quietly doing away with the Vaio laptop back in 2014.

The InZone M9 monitor is king of this new range, packing 4K/27in IPS display and HDMI 2.1 connectivity. It's a PC gaming screen all the way, thanks to its 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms grey-to-grey response time, and compatibility with Nvidia G-Sync. There's also a cheaper 1080p sibling available in the InZone M5, which boasts a refresh rate of 240Hz.

If you're after a new headset, Sony is releasing a trio of made-for-PC kits. The InZone H9, InZone H7 and InZone H3 will all be available to order from July 4, with the best of the bunch (the H9) offering active noise cancellation, wireless connectivity, and synthetic leather earpads. A real premium experience.

In a recent interview with Nikkei, Sony executive deputy president Kazuo Kii said that INZONE said that InZone is the company's big push for the PC space.

He said: "InZone's target market is hardcore PC gamers. We're going to start at the top and learn what top esports gamers want. The vision we have in mind is that of Mizuno and Nike providing shoes for athletes. You can win prize money in esports. If a monitor's response time lags even slightly, you lose. Sony products aren't going to let people engaged in these grueling battles down."

Between this new line of hardware and all of the PlayStation games that have come to PC over the last few years, it's clear Sony is making a big play for the hearts of PC gamers. We'll have to see how it goes.
