It’s never good news when it’s announced that game services, or entire games, are being taken offline. Losing media to the ether never to be seen again is always a massive shame, and try as they might, game preservationists can only do so much to make sure that the world doesn’t forget that some lost titles ever existed.
As reported by ComicBook, it’s now been confirmed that the military strategy game GUNS UP! will be shutting down as of next year. The free-to-play title, developed by Valkyrie Entertainment and published by PlayStation, “combines the fun of enemy base invasion with tower-defence, for an experience like no other”, according to its description on Steam.
Pretty much all PlayStation fans are currently excited for the release of God of War Ragnarök - take a look at the trailer below.
“Multiplayer and all online features for GUNS UP! will be terminated and no longer available starting [14/4/23],” a notice on the game’s official site reads. “As you have to be online to play this title, this game will not be playable starting [14/4/23]. 50k gold will be gifted to all current accounts before the end of the month. Enjoy and thank you for the support!”

GUNS UP! first released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in 2015, before making its way to Steam in 2018, and earlier this year it also landed on mobile. So, it’s had a fair run, but clearly the move to mobile devices didn’t bring on the revival that it clearly needed. If you’re a completionist and need to get all the Steam achievements and the Platinum PlayStation trophy in order to sleep at night, you have just over five months to do so before that 14 April deadline. Good luck.
Speaking of games lost to time, allow me to introduce you to The Sacred Pools - a full motion video “erotic thriller” title from SEGA, which was aimed at older audiences. An early build of the cancelled game was recently uncovered, allowing the world to finally witness the weirdness that we all missed out on. And, yeah, I think it’s safe to say that it was a good thing it was cancelled.
