One PlayStation Plus subscriber has discovered an ‘out of this world’ hidden gem, urging Marvel fans to play it right now.

The game in question is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy from the current Tomb Raider studio, Crystal Dynamics. Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this Square Enix-published title is a standalone story and one that should not be ignored.

Take a look at a trailer for the game below.

Upon discovering Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy via PlayStation Plus, a Reddit user expressed their excitement to their fellow group members. Though, just be wary of the comments section in the thread, because you may discover some spoilers. “Heads up, the gameplay is a bit clunky at first, but after you've unlocked the other's abilities, the combat is mostly about managing your teammate's abilities,” posted Zairy47.

They continued: “The real star of the show, however, is the story. My God, I don't think Disney could ever make [the] GOTG movies or series as good as the game version is... [It’s] funny and not forced down your throat. The art direction is out of this world and it's basically a crime not having this game nominated for anything at The Game Awards...such a shame. Trust me, play the game, enjoy the story, no need to play it on hard mode because the gameplay is not the main focus here.”

However, I must point out that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy did receive nominations at The Game Awards in 2021. I’m not sure if the Reddit user had got the game's release year mixed up. At The Game Awards 2021, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was nominated for Best Action/Adventure, Best Score/Soundtrack and Best Narrative. The latter of which, it had won. It didn't feature in the GOTY category though which is perhaps what this user was trying to get at.

In our review of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we said the game is "a really enjoyable experience that I would recommend to a wide audience: for fans of all things Marvel, action games, and stories that dare to go that step further in relating a compelling fantasy to hugely relevant real-world matters.”

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is out now for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Sadly, despite its popularity, it seems we might not be treated to a sequel.
