PlayStation Plus Subscribers Hail New Freebie As 'Hidden Gem'

“The first game in a long time to really capture me”

This game has been in my backlog for over a year, but after reading some of these comments… I think I may be convinced to move it to the front of the queue.

There are a lot of brilliant games on PlayStation Plus. Not quite as many as there are on Xbox Game Pass, sure, but still a pretty sizeable amount.

Sometimes I browse through the collection of games on offer, and I get so overwhelmed with the choices that I end up playing none of them– but today, that’s going to change.

As one user over on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit notes, in a thread titled “A hidden gem”, Don't Nod’s 2024 action RPG Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is currently available through the PlayStation Plus catalogue.

Now, obviously, I’ve not played it, but if you need some convincing as to why you should give it a go, here’s what the folks in the thread have to say about it.

“Finished the snowy mountain section just 5 minutes ago and it was so impressive!” commented user Dorkinger.

“I was not invested in a game this much since a while! Incredible this game passed me completely, I had no idea.”

“The first game in a long time to really capture me”, replied user Due_Helicopter4421.

“The story, characters and writing are top tier. The game play is fine. Combat is fun enough. It's not a drag, it's just not great. Can't believe I hadn't heard of this before. I definitely recommend it.”

Sounds like everyone else has the same opinion that reviewers did; combat is meh, but everything else about the game is a 10/10.

Personally, I can excuse some rubbish combat if every other element of the game is as good as people say, and it’s been a minute since I played a game with a really, really great story.
