PlayStation Launching New Hardware For PC Players

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a brand-new range of gaming gear which is aimed primarily at PC players, ostensibly as part of the ongoing plan to close the gap between PlayStation and PC gamers.

Earlier this week the company unveiled its shiny new InZone range of PC gaming hardware, consisting of high-end desktop gaming monitors and headsets. This is Sony's first foray back into offering PC gamers new gear since quietly shuttering the

Vaio laptop back in 2014.

The InZone M9 monitor headlines the new range, boasting 4K/27in IPS display and HDMI 2.1 connectivity. While such a beast would clearly benefit a PS5, it's a PC gaming screen through and through thanks to its 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms grey-to-grey response time, and compatibility with Nvidia G-Sync.

You won't be surprised to learn that such a beast isn't cheap, however. The asking price for the InZone M9 is an eye-watering £999/$899. While there is a cheaper 1080p sibling available in the InZone M5, it'll still set you back $529 (UK pricing yet to be confirmed). It is worth nothing that the M5 has a refresh rate of 240Hz, however, perhaps making it a better option for PC gamers who are more serious about competitive play. The M9 will launch August 7, while the M5's release is TBD.

If you're in the market for a new headset, Sony is releasing a trio of made-for-PC kits. The InZone H9, InZone H7 and InZone H3 will all be available to order from July 4.

The H9 (£269/$300) offers the premium experience with active noise cancellation, wireless connectivity, and synthetic leather earpads. Go down in price a little and the H7 (£199 / $229) keeps the wireless design, but swaps snythetic leather for nylon and ditches active noise cancellation altogether. Finally, gamers on a budget can grab the H3 (£89 / $100) - a wired device with less options.

Between this new line of hardware and all of the PlayStation games that have come to PC over the last two years, it's clear Sony is making a big play for the affections of PC gamers. Let's see if it pays off.
