PlayStation fans aren't happy that The Last Of Us Part 1 is cheaper on PC than PS5

The Last of Us Part 1 will soon launch on PC, but it's way cheaper than it's PlayStation 5 counterpart.

This has been quite the year for The Last of Us fans, by which I mean it’s been quite the year for me. Naughty Dog both announced and released The Last of Us Part I within the space of a few months, and it was to critical acclaim. Many questioned whether a remake of The Last of Us was entirely necessary but seeing as it landed a very respectable score of 88 on Metacritic, I’m going to say it was.

PlayStation 5 users got their hands on the new-gen remake back in September, but it was also announced that the game would eventually be launched on PC too. Well, Naughty Dog stopped by at this month’s Game Awards to reveal that the PC version will be released on 3 March, 2023. It’s not a stretch to imagine that Part II will be ported eventually but I digress. It’s great that more people are getting the opportunity to experience the game, but PS5 owners aren’t too happy about the price of the PC edition.

As with all other PlayStation 5 releases, The Last of Us Part I cost £69.99 to purchase on the console here in the UK. If you’re looking to buy the PC version though, you can currently get your pre-order in on Steam for just £49.99. It doesn’t take a genius to point out that that’s a whopping £20 discount. Seeing as it’s exactly the same game on both platforms, you can understand why PS5 owners aren’t thrilled.

Even several months after release, Part I still costs £69.99 on the PlayStation Store - although you can now grab it for less than the Steam version from other retailers. As reported by Comic Book, the pricing sparked debate among fans over on ResetEra. One user wrote, “Will Sony lower the PSN price come March?” while another added, “They do it because they know they can get away with it.”

As infuriating as this may look on paper though, PC users will have waited an extra six months for this game. That’s something that surely has to be accounted for. Sony also will have considered how much PC users typically spend - pricing Part I in line with that figure.
