Sony has given out a brand-new freebie to all PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners in celebration of a major series' 20th anniversary. And the best part is that you don't even need PlayStation Plus to get hold of it.

For those that might not be aware, it's been 20 whole years since the release of Ratchet & Clank on the PlayStation 2. Insomniac Games' sci-fi action-platformer was an instant hit, and went on to spawn a ton of sequels - most recently the excellent Rift Apart for PlayStation 5.

In celebration of this major milestone, Sony has decided to do a number of things. Earlier this month the company announced that it would be bringing a ton of classic PS3-era Ratchet & Clank games to PlayStation Plus, which is a good move in our books.

But not content with leaving the celebration there, users on PS4 and PS5 can also claim a free digital collectible via the new PlayStation Stars service. You know those things that look like they were probably supposed to NFTs at one point but definitely aren't NFTs? Yeah, those.

If you're interested in adding this to your digital collection, all you have to do is play any Ratchet & Clank game on either console. From there it's a simple case of heading to PlayStation Stars and claiming a special model of Ratchet. Okay, so it's not the most exciting freebie, but we'll take whatever we can get.

While Insomniac Games has yet to announce the future of Ratchet & Clank (presumably because it's busy working on two high-profile Marvel games right now), we can assume that everybody's favourite Lombax has a bright future ahead of them.
