Tactical RPG fans, rejoice. A classic PS1 game, which was previously only released in Japan, is getting a modern remake - and it’s set to release in just a few months time.

Fans of the genre might remember that last year, Front Mission 1st: Remake landed on Nintendo Switch. There are no prizes for figuring out that this was a remake of the first game in Square Enix’s Front Mission series, which originally released in Japan back in 1995 on the Super Famicom, before later making its way overseas on the Nintendo DS. Anyway, clearly that remake went down well enough because now, as ComicBook reports, Front Mission 2: Remake is on the way 25 years after the original game's release.

Take a look at the trailer for Front Mission 2: Remake below.

“A classic tactical RPG returns! The second game in the main Front Mission storyline is finally available outside of Japan for the first time,” an official description of the game reads (via ComicBook). “Front Mission 2: Remake preserves the mature story, strategic turn-based combat, and Wanzer customisation options of the original. Enjoy the revitalised classic with updated visuals and new features and enhancements.”

Given that the game previously only released in Japan, most probably won’t be too familiar with the plot. If you want to go in totally blind, feel free to scroll away now but otherwise, the official description reads, “12 years have passed since the second Huffman conflict. The impoverished People's Republic of Alordesh has been suffering a severe economic decline ever since the war ended. In June 2102, soldiers of the Alordesh Army rise up and, led by Ven Mackarage, declare independence from the O.C.U. (Oceania Cooperative Union)."

“Ash, an O.C.U. soldier, manages to survive the ensuing battle, but Alordesh is completely overrun by the Revolutionary Army,” it continues. “Ash and his surviving teammates infiltrate Alordesh's chaotic underground in an attempt to escape the country. However, they soon discover that there is a huge conspiracy behind the coup.”

The good news is that there’s not too long to wait for the release of Front Mission 2: Remake. It’ll be launching on Nintendo Switch on 12 June.
