Three Classic PS1 Games Returning On Modern Consoles

Confirmed for modern platforms.

Retro gamers, your prayers have been answered. Three classic PS1 games have been confirmed to be returning to modern platforms.

For myself and, I’m sure, many others of my age, the Sony PlayStation holds a special place in our hearts.

It was my original introduction to gaming, where I’d spent many hours of my childhood playing classics like Resident Evil, Crash Bandicoot, and MediEvil. Games that I still love and replay to this day.

While Sony continues to expand its PlayStation Plus Premium library on PS4 and PS5, another company has announced a set of PS1 games will be coming to modern platforms.

QUByte, a company that is dedicated to re-packaging old console games for sale on modern platforms, has announced that its emulation engine now supports PS1 games. And it’s also confirmed the first three games that it’ll be releasing.

What PS1 games are coming?

The games are Invasion From Beyond, Motor Mash, and One. I know you may not necessarily have heard of these, but they’re all pretty cool games that deserve a second lease of life.

Let’s start with Invasion From Beyond. It’s an action game inspired by various low budget sci-fi films that were released in the 1950s, where you pilot an aircraft to fight off an alien invasion of Earth.

I never owned this game on PS1, but I do remember it appearing on several demo discs in the late ‘90s, where it was called “B-Movie” here in the UK.

Next up is Motor Mash, another PS1 game I didn’t own but definitely remember playing either via a demo disc or at an older friend’s house.

Think of it as like a Micro Machines-style racing game where you drive on various courses against opponents, which could be either AI or real people if you played split-screen.

The final game in the list is One, which is a game I never actually played back in the day. This one is a shooter where the camera shifts perspectives with the action. So, all-in-all, a pretty diverse collection of games here.

There isn’t a release date confirmed for these games yet, and QUByte also hasn’t said if the new releases will feature any new quality-of-life improvements.

Exact platforms also haven’t been confirmed either. QUByte typically brings games to PC, Nintendo Switch, and modern PlayStation systems. So, it’s a good assumption to make that this will be the same case here.
