It’s strange to consider that the next generation of consoles is almost upon us, but it’s true.
Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launched in 2020 and neither Sony nor Microsoft typically extends a console lifespan much beyond seven years.
As such, it’s very likely that we could see successors arrive as soon as 2027.
That’s why plenty of whispers are beginning to emerge regarding what we might possibly expect from the next gen.

When it comes to the next-gen Xbox, it sounds as if it’ll be more of a PC competitor than one for the PlayStation 6.
As reported by TweakTown, the console is rumoured to use AMD’s ‘Magnus’ APU for various systems, something which is typically used in pre-built gaming PCs.
That certainly gives some indication as to the potential power of the next-gen Xbox.
For the tech savvy amongst you, the semi-custom Magnus APU will supposedly work alongside a Zen 6 CPU + RDNA 5 GPU.

For the non-tech savvy, we’re talking top of the range components here.
It makes a lot of sense for Xbox to chase quality matching PCs.
I don’t want to incite a console war but, fair to say, Sony is used to one-upping Microsoft when it comes to gaming tech; the green brand needs to find its own gimmick.
Moore’s Law is Dead has recently claimed that the console will also use a AT2 die which, as again reported by TweakTown, features up to 64 CUs of RDNA 5 GPU and up to 18GB of GDDR7 memory on a 192-bit memory bus with up to 864GB/sec of memory bandwidth.

It goes without saying that I don’t think we’ll actually see Xbox officially unveil this console for quite some time.
For now, the company will be solely focused on the upcoming launch of the Xbox ROG Ally and Ally X which are thought to be releasing this winter.
The pair of handheld devices lack a release date for now, with pricing also yet to be confirmed despite figures surfacing online from several reputable sources.
Perhaps mid 2026 is when we might start receiving something a tad more concrete when it comes to the next-gen.

My advice? Sit tight for now and enjoy this generation while it lasts.
