Xbox Game Pass gets a promising title shadow-dropped that has a surprise connection to Silent Hill.

on Thursday (20 November) the Xbox Partner Preview event took place and it was packed full of new game announcements, gameplay reveals, demos and releases. It was a time for smaller-scale games to shine and not be overshadowed by AAA goliaths.

Just a couple of its highlights were the console demo release for Reanimal, the new game from the Little Nightmares creators and a stunning trailer for the upcoming RPG, Tides of Annihilation.

One of the other reveals that took place at the Xbox Partner Preview is one called Total Chaos, developed by Trigger Happy Interactive and published by Apogee Entertainment.

“Descend into Total Chaos, a gripping survival horror experience that darkens the fragile space between truth and madness,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“The once thriving Fort Oasis feels like a long ago memory; deserted, decayed and too dark for comfort.

“You’ve wrecked upon its island shore by a sudden storm–its distant past still seems eerily present, but venture inward you must, compelled by cryptic radio transmissions from someone who seems like a friend. But as you delve deeper into Fort Oasis, reality itself becomes twisted and uncertain as you realise your very existence is at stake.”

What’s the Silent Hill connection?

Fans of Konami’s iconic survival horror franchise, Silent Hill, we are pleased to know that Total Chaos has brought in the legendary composing services of Akira Yamaoka.

“I am truly honoured to have taken part in this collaboration with Total Chaos. Within the chaos lies a hidden silence—an invisible world that cannot be captured by words, but only expressed through sound,” said the composer, in a press release shared by Gematsu.

“It is an experience like a journey where unseen landscapes are felt through the ears rather than seen by the eyes. I hope you enjoy it.”

After watching its gameplay trailer, Total Chaos seems to be right up my street. It kind of looks like the result of what would happen if Silent Hill, DOOM and Layers of Fear got together and had a baby (sorry for that image).

Total Chaos is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with a modest price of £20.99/$24.99, with some platforms offering a launch week discount of 15%.

What’s more, Total Chaos not only has a free playable demo on Steam.

It’s also included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. What a win.
