Xbox Game Pass Subscribers Gutted Over Day One Release Delay

We’re gutted too

Xbox Game Pass subscribers are gutted that a highly anticipated game has been delayed. And we feel that too.

Just like PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass is packed full of games that we can play in an instant, as well as offering exclusive DLC, discounts and more. Despite the continuous price hikes, both subscription services are good value for money (as long as they don't get much more expensive).

While PlayStation Plus can offer launch titles (sadly not first-party), the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier pretty much blows its competitor out of the water in that respect. Not only does Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offer more third-party launch titles, but it also offers first-party titles, which will include the upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved.

One other game that is going to launch on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is Mixtape, developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur and published by Annapurna Interactive.

“On their last night together, three friends embark on one final adventure. Play through a mixtape of memories, set to the soundtrack of a generation,” reads the synopsis of Mixtape.

“En route to their final party together, a perfectly curated playlist draws three friends into dreamlike reenactments of their formative memories.

"Experience a variety of narrative vignettes exploring the pivotal moments that shaped them.”

Mixtape was announced during Summer Game Fest in 2024 and is from the same developers who brought us the critically acclaimed The Artful Escape.

It’s set in the 1980s and inspired by “coming of age” teen movies. The debut trailer looked fantastic, packed with nostalgia, and it’s easy to see why many can't wait for its release.

A year later, at Summer Game Fest, it was announced that Mixtape will launch on Xbox Game Pass sometime this year. Sadly, however, it’s now been delayed until 2026.

Reddit reacts to Mixtape’s delay

“That sucks, my subscription will run out before its release,” exclaimed inksignificant.

“Is it ever coming out? Jeez, it’s like I heard about this game two years ago and it just keeps getting pushed,” replied Ok_Atmosphere8206. As far as I’m aware, this might be its first delay.

“Not too surprised, with most developers going on Christmas break in five to six weeks, it's unlikely that too many games which are ‘TBA 2025’ are actually going to be released in 2025,” said Follows-Jesus.

When Mixtape does eventually launch, it will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Hopefully, it’ll be well worth the wait (and I’m sure that it will).
