Halo players finally have the new game announcement they’ve been waiting for, and it’s going to cause some arguments.
The Halo Championship Finals kicked off tonight and with it Halo Studios has announced the next game in the series, a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved called Halo: Campaign Evolved.
I went hands-on with the new remake and have quite a few thoughts, so be sure to check out my preview to learn more.
To summarise though Halo: Campaign Evolved is an Unreal Engine 5 remake of Bungie’s first Halo game complete with revamped visuals and some new gameplay additions.

It’s said weapons from other Halo games will pop up during the refreshed campaign and you’ll even be able to drive some vehicles you couldn’t pilot in the original game, like the Covenant Wraith. You’ll also be able to hijack vehicles which you couldn’t do in the first game.
Also confirmed at some all-new story missions. These apparently take place before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved and will follow Master Chief and Sgt Johnson.
For the first time ever in Halo’s history the game will be launching on the PlayStation 5 in addition to Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game will also be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title for those still subscribed.
While the game looks very different to Halo: Combat Evolved it’ll also feel different as two controversial mechanics have been added, which I’m sure won’t cause any arguments amongst fans.

Sprinting makes a return and every weapon of the game gets a zoom-in function, similar to what we saw in Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: Infinite. Other mechanics like clambering, sliding and armour abilities like the grappling hook don’t seem to be making a return for the time being.
From my gameplay experience I really don’t think these are bad features at all, but I know there’s a very large part of the Halo community that hates being able to sprint so that could be a deal-breaker for many.
The last thing worth mentioning is the campaign will support four players in co-op. In the original release you could only play with one other person but now an entire squad can unravel the mysteries of Alpha Halo, which is very exciting.
