Halo: Campaign Evolved reactions are coming in, and it looks like Microsoft will also be giving the rest of the trilogy the same treatment.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is releasing next year, and it’ll mark the franchise’s debut on PlayStation consoles.
While the reactions seem to be mixed so far depending on who you ask, many can agree that at least Halo is getting something. It’s been far too long since we had a new game release to look forward to.
Now, a new rumour suggests that Microsoft isn’t stopping at Halo: Campaign Evolved, but that the second and third games in the original trilogy will be remastered for current-gen systems.

“Halo 2 & Halo 3 are being remade, yes they will have sprint. No multiplayer, only campaign. Full remakes. Multiplayer is going to be Halo 7,” reads a post from Halo Leaks on X (formerly Twitter).
As implied by the post, it seems that Halo 7 could be aiming to be multiplayer-only, acting as the online component of the remakes.
Therefore, this could be interpreted as Halo 7’s multiplayer maps, vehicles, and weapons being based on content that appeared in the original trilogy. This might even mean classic multiplayer maps returning.
“No ETA on when these could be announced, same source that told me about the remake & it's mechanics also told me Halo 2 & 3 were being remade too,” Halo Leaks continued in another post. “It's possible they're using Halo Campaign Evolved to judge whether a Halo 2 & 3 remake would be viable, but this is just guessing.”

Are Halo 2 & Halo 3 remakes right for the series?
However, Halo fans seem to be a bit divided on whether this is the right move for the series. There seems to be some pushback on remaking the single-player campaigns while not also bringing the multiplayer back.
“Biggest fumble of all time if true,” wrote one user in the comments. “Halo 3 multiplayer would be enough to revitalize the franchise.”

“People been wanting a Halo 3 remake with Campaign and Multiplayer and they said no to Multiplayer,” another wrote. “I would say L but I don't see them recapturing what Bungie created in 2007.”
People also believe that Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo 3 are better left untouched, and certainly don’t need a do-over.
“Halo 2 Anniversary is pretty good,” wrote one fan on the Halo Reddit page. “Halo 3 just needs a remaster of graphics but if they were to do a remake they should bring back Miranda’s and Prophet of Truth’s Halo 2 voice actors.”
“Hot take but I’d rather have a Halo 3 remaster similar to H2A than a remake,” another wrote. “I don’t trust 343i at all with Halo 3, and Halo 2A already looks pretty good visually.”

There’s no ETA on when these remakes could be revealed, and with nothing concrete coming from Microsoft yet, I’d take all of this information with a grain of salt for the time being.
It sounds like whatever happens, it’ll be coming once Microsoft has decided whether or not Halo: Campaign Evolved has been a success or not.
