A massive redesign can be a risky move for any company, and it seems as though Microsoft’s latest Xbox revamp has not gone down well with players.
In an effort to keep up with the times and keep things fresh and new, it is not unusual for companies to bombard us with redesigns. As an iPhone user, I only know this too well.
However, Microsoft is in the firing line this time, as it unveils its latest changes to the Xbox Achievement UI as part of its Xbox Cloud Gaming revamp.
With changes made to both the standard and rare achievement notification pop-ups, Xbox Achievements are the subject of Microsoft’s latest revamp, and not everyone is happy. Here's the new redesign, and Xbox player reactions.
What's Changed With Xbox Achievements?
Over the past few months, Microsoft has been making some changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming in an effort to improve navigation features, user friendliness, and more specifically, its design.

It may only be a visual overhaul, and not affect any of the feature settings, but after it went live earlier this week, players have not been shy in sharing their thoughts.
As such, this could give us a glimpse into what the company has planned for the Xbox as a whole, especially as it may be approaching its next-generation.
For now, achievements have been given a makeover.
As demonstrated by TrueAchievements, the standard achievement notification features a trophy surrounded in a wreath-like design. It showcases alongside the achievement name, score, and the words: “Achievement unlocked!”

For the rare achievement, there is now a purple diamond icon, but that marks the only difference, although the achievement descriptions are not shown.

It is worth remembering that these designs may not be final as Microsoft uses Xbox Cloud Gaming as a way to try changes out ahead of bringing them to Xbox consoles.
Hopefully this is the case as Xbox users over on r/xbox are not impressed with the new redesigns.
Reviews Are Mixed
“I’ve often thought it’d be nice if achievements did something - they used to also integrate with the rewards system where you got some points for unlocking at least one achievement per day, if I remember correctly. Maybe bringing that back would be a good idea,” one user shared.
“Could they redesign it so that it completely disappears? A ridiculous waste of time,” another added.
In amongst the negative comments, some users have expressed their willingness to accept a new design, as one was long overdue.
Part of me is happy Microsoft are keeping things fresh. But this is the last thing that needed to change with Xbox. I quite liked the retro throwback every time I got a trophy - in my opinion it just looks a bit like clip art now. The heart has gone.
However, it remains to be seen if this achievement revamp will stay or if user feedback will inspire yet another redesign.
