PlayStation Plus Delays April Free Game Update

April's departing titles are being revealed a little later than usual

PlayStation Plus’ latest extra and premium tier offerings have arrived and are available to download and enjoy now.

What you might not have noticed, however, is that March’s arrivals have not been accompanied by the announcement of April’s departures as is usually the case.

Every month when the extra and premium tiers are updated, a bunch of games transfer into a section of PlayStation Plus known as ‘Last Chance To Play’.

That means those games are only sticking around for one more month.

You may think that PlayStation Plus offers an ever-expanding library, but it most certainly doesn’t. That’s all a facade.

Strangely though, we don’t yet know which free games will be departing in April but there is, as reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, a very good reason for that.

This isn’t the first instance of this happening and it’s all to do with timing.

You see, the extra and premium tiers’ new games drop on the third Tuesday of each month.

Normally, there’s a four week gap between that happening on a month to month basis.

However, in April, the third Tuesday of the month is on the 21 April which is five weeks following yesterday. This is all just due to how the days of week fall within the calendar year.

That’s why it’s actually too early to announce the departing games.

As I said, departing games are usually revealed with four weeks' notice, so we should see them confirmed in the ‘Last Chance to Play’ section next week on Tuesday 24 April.

When that departing line-up does drop, we’ll bring it to you. In the meantime, allow me to fill you in on what’s just joined the various tiers.

March’s Extra and Premium Tier Free Games Are Available Now

The extra tier gained:

  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (PS5)
  • Persona 5 Royal (PS5 | PS4)
  • Personal 5 Royal Ultimate Edition (PS4)
  • Madden NFL 26 (PS5)
  • Metal Eden (PS5)
  • The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria (PS5)
  • Astroneer (PS4)
  • Blasphemous 2 (PS5, PS4)

As for the premium tier, that’s simply gained Tekken: Dark Resurrection.

It’s a pretty decent line-up, if you ask me. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is an excellent FPS regardless of whether you really know the franchise or not.

Persona 5 Royal is one of the greatest games of all-time according to many, and The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is the strongest LOTR title released in recent years.

Then again, its competition is Gollum and Tales of the Shire … so that’s not a revolutionary accolade.

There’s undoubtedly plenty here to keep gamers busy over the next month, as long as ‘Last Chance to Play’ doesn’t get filled up with bangers we need to quickly speedrun before it’s too late.
