Starfield soars past 6 million players, becomes biggest Bethesda launch of all time

Bethesda has revealed that Starfield has amassed over six million players, making it the studio's biggest ever launch.

Well, this is certainly an impressive accolade. Bethesda’s latest space epic Starfield has already soared past a whopping 6,000,000 players.

The reception to Starfield is far more mixed than I expected. On one hand, plenty of players are enamoured with the vast galaxy Bethesda has created. On the other, some have criticised the game’s depth and immersion - particularly when it comes to functions like fast travel and loading screens. In our 10 out of 10 review, we deemed the game to be “revolutionary”. It’s clear that there’s so much for us still to discover in Starfield. Fans are only just learning about a game-changing exploration trick, while another player shared an infinite money hack they stumbled across. The more players there are, the more secrets we’ll likely unveil - and Constellation has so far welcomed in over 6,000,000 new recruits.

Take a look at our video review of Starfield below.

Bethesda took to the official Starfield Twitter account to announce the news. They wrote, “As of this morning [7 September], Starfield has already surpassed six million players, making it the biggest Bethesda game launch of all time.” A commendable accolade. It awaits to be seen if Starfield can prove to be the top-selling game of the year.

It’s believed that Hogwarts Legacy still holds on to the top spot. Just two weeks after release, the game had already sold a dizzying 12 million copies - and that number only accounts for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC releases. Don’t forget that the Xbox One and PS4 versions were released at a later date, therefore most definitely increasing that number. We’ve also got the Nintendo Switch launch to come in November.

It’s still early days for Starfield though. Six million players is nothing to sniff it and with some stiff competition at the moment, namely Baldur’s Gate 3, I’d imagine that there's some players out there yet to dive into Bethesda’s latest. What a year for gaming it’s been.
