New Xbox Controller Leaks, Introduces Highly-Requested Feature We Need ASAP

It's perfect!

New details have leaked regarding a new and much-needed improvement to the already fantastic Xbox controller.

Over the years, we’ve had some wonderful controllers and, on the flipside, some truly atrocious ones too.

However, other than the chunky Duke controller from the original Xbox, Microsoft's hardware has been rather consistent.

I know a lot of you love the Duke controller, so I apologise for any offence caused. But I hated it then, and I hate it now.

In my humble opinion, following the chunky Duke, Microsoft released the Xbox S controller. It was lighter and had handle grips that felt much more comfortable to hold. That controller would lay the foundation for the Xbox 360 controller, evolving into what we have today with the Xbox Series X/S.

Modern-Day Controllers Are Great!

For me, as much as I love the haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers, not to mention how comfortable the PlayStation 5’s DualSense is to hold, in terms of comfort and natural placement of your hands/fingers, the current Xbox controller wins hands down.

However, as much as I appreciate the current Xbox controller, it’s not perfect.

It could do with some minor improvements to make our gaming sessions even easier. Such as the new feature that’s seemingly on the way.

As reported by GameRant (via The Verge), a new Xbox controller will reportedly have Wi-Fi connectivity. This might seem like a pointless improvement, given that the Xbox controller is already wireless, but it may be more important than you think, here's why.

Why Is Wi-Fi Controller Connectivity a Good Thing?

As with the current Xbox and DualSense controllers, they connect to our consoles and devices via Bluetooth.

The Wi-Fi connectivity means that the controller would connect directly to Xbox Cloud Gaming instead of a device.

For example, when on your travels, you won't have to connect the Xbox controller to a tablet via Bluetooth.

Instead, it can be connected by Wi-Fi. This should reduce controller latency and make the controller more responsive to the in-game action, rather than the tiniest split second of lag that might occur with Bluetooth.

Microsoft obviously sees its Xbox Game Pass subscription service as the future of how games are played and accessed, so having Wi-Fi connectivity in its controllers seems like a necessary evolution.

It does make me wonder, however, what would happen if you lose the Wi-Fi connection. I assume it still might have the option of Bluetooth, so some sort of dual-connectivity would be great.

Of course, new Xbox controllers having Wi-Fi is mere hearsay at this time, and we should take it with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
