Marvel's Spider-Man Xbox port unites fans: 'looks good wrapped in green'

A potential Xbox port of Marvel’s Spider-Man has united fans, as Sony’s commitment to opening up the platform for new players has expanded.

If you cast your mind back to 2018, you may remember that Marvel’s Spider-Man was originally an exclusive for the PlayStation 4, before later being remastered for PS5.

It was later brought over to PC as part of Sony’s big push to support players across platforms like Steam and Epic Games. As a PC gamer myself, I was very happy to see how well the port ran.

Following the announcement that Sony is bringing Helldivers 2 over to Xbox consoles, fans are now begging for Marvel’s Spider-Man to receive similar treatment.

It seems that Sony’s decision to bring Helldivers 2 over to Microsoft’s gaming platform has set off a chain reaction of sorts, with Xbox gamers now holding out hope for other PlayStation games to make the cut.

Earlier this week, Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games posted on an image of the game on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Hey, how are ya?”.

The post has inspired comments from fans begging for an Xbox port for the bestselling superhero game, as one fan commented: “Looks good wrapped in green.”

“So Spiderman 2018 coming to Xbox?” wrote another.

It’s not just a few isolated comments either, but it seems like a lot of Xbox users are united in the hopes of seeing Spider-Man make his way over to Xbox.

It’s not the first time Insomniac has developed for the Microsoft platform, as the company had previously worked on 2014’s Sunset Overdrive that was exclusive to Xbox One and PC.

However, the final decision will come down to Sony, not Insomniac, on whether to bring over Spider-Man to Xbox consoles. I'd say it's unlikely, but then again, I'd have said the same thing about Helldivers 2 a few weeks ago.
