It’s been a while since we’ve been treated to a Just Cause game and while we have no idea as to when a new game in the series might be released, there is some good news to bring, at least.

The last game to be released in the Square Enix open-world action series was Just Cause 4 in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So it’s understandable that some fans might be itching for a new entry, especially as they’ve been waiting ever since a new Just Cause game was teased in 2022.

Check out the Contraband trailer below!

“Rogue agent Rico Rodriguez journeys to Solis, a huge South American world home of conflict, oppression and extreme weather conditions. Strap into your wingsuit, equip your fully customisable grappling hook, and get ready to bring the thunder!” reads the synopsis of Just Cause 4.

While we wait to hear news from Square Enix of when Just Cause 5 may arrive, Avalanche Studios Group, the team responsible for not only the Just Cause series but also Mad Max (2015) have formed together to work on a new “cutting-edge AAA open-world game.”

As reported by the Portuguese media outlet, GeekInOut, a recent job listing has appeared online all but confirming that the new game is on the way. The game in question is called Contraband and it was actually announced in 2021 during an Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase event, but details have been radio-silent since.

The job listing is for a production director to work full-time at the Avalanche Studios Group HQ in Stockholm, Sweden with “flexible remote working arrangements”. As the production director, you will be required to work “closely with our top team of producers to ensure the creative vision of the game is achieved.”

Not much else was revealed, at least in terms of gameplay details or a release date on Contraband, but we do know that it will be an Xbox Game Studios exclusive. “Welcome to Contraband, a co-op smuggler’s paradise set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan,” reads the brief description of the upcoming game.

Contraband will be released on PC and Xbox Series X/S. What’s more, as an exclusive title on the green brand, it will also be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost.
