A bizarre ROG Xbox Ally X feature has been labelled as the “goofiest” thing in gaming by a customer of the new handheld console.

Following months of anticipation, in a ASUS and Microsoft collaboration, the ROG Xbox Ally handheld consoles go on sale today as a direct competitor to the Steam Deck. Customers will have the option of two versions.

In a nutshell, the best version is the ROG Xbox Ally X, which has a faster processor, more memory and storage space, and more. That version is priced at £799.99. While the standard ROG Xbox Ally comes in at £499.99. Both of which use the Windows operating system.

In our review of the new console, we said: “If you’re eager to try out PC gaming in an accessible way with additional access to the Xbox titles you know and love, the Xbox ROG Ally X is an easy recommendation to make.”

Perhaps one of the best features of either ROG Xbox Ally is that it’s compatible with the Store store. As a result of this, it essentially plays first-party PlayStation games such as God of War, The Last of Us: Part I and Ghost of Tsushima on a Microsoft system. What a wonderful time to be alive.

However, there are one or two additions that, while they can be useful, probably aren't the first features that come to mind when you want to game on a handheld PC.

“LMAOOO, what do you mean the new Xbox handheld comes with Microsoft Teams and OneDrive installed? This is the ******* goofiest company in games,” exclaimed BlueSky user, Jai.

Typically, Microsoft Teams would be used on a traditional PC or laptop to chat with work colleagues or friends over video, similar to the likes of Zoom and Google Meet.

As for OneDrive, that is cloud storage for your files, and neither would be something you’d expect to find on a gaming console. Yet, this is Microsoft we’re talking about, and there’s every chance that the ROG Xbox Ally will also hassle you to use the Bing web browser.

“They're pivoting pretty quickly from ‘Everything is an Xbox’ to ‘Every Xbox is a thing your boss can monitor you on, ’” replied Clifton B in jest.

“Who needs RAM or storage space on a handheld? Hell, who needs their Xbox handheld to play Xbox games? Microsoft doesn't think so,” said the sarcastic Kidd512.

The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X are both available to buy today.
