The Witcher meets Stardew Valley in new Steam RPG you can try free

The Witcher meets Stardew Valley in new Steam RPG you can try free

A farming sim RPG hybrid

Picture it, a game that blends the cosy charm of Stardew Valley with the fantastical world of The Witcher franchise.

It turns out that game exists.

Allow me to introduce you to Mirthwood, an upcoming farming sim and RPG hybrid from developer Bad Ridge Games.

“Embark on an enchanting journey and brave ferocious creatures in an immersive medieval fantasy world. Will you settle a new homestead to live a life of farming and trade, or pick up the sword and take up the adventurers' path?” poses the synopsis.

The game is packed with your standard cosy game fair. You’ll be tasked with maintaining and expanding your own farmstead which, naturally, includes planting and harvesting crops as well as raising animals.

It’ll be down to you to trade your harvest with the local townspeople, with this money then pumped back into your farmstead and humble abode.

On top of that though, you’ll need to deal with taking up arms against local bandits and wolves.

ICYMI: Take a look at our Star Wars Outlaws preview ahead of the game’s launch this month.

There’s not a huge amount of information on that real-time combat, but it’s said that Mirthwood contains a variety of weapons and armour options for you to choose from.

You’ll be able to pick from a number of classes, levelling up and becoming a specialist in your chosen combat field.

There are six regions in total to explore in Mirthwood with means, yes, there are plenty of NPCs for you to befriend - perhaps even form a romantic bond with.

Mirthwood isn’t out just yet, but its release is on the horizon.

You’ll be able to dive into the full release on 11 September but in the meantime, there’s a generous free demo you can currently enjoy over on Steam.

For now, Mirthwood is only targeting a Switch launch but you never know. If the game is well received, we could see it release on other platforms further down the line.
