Ever since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released, RPGs haven’t quite been the same and many have tried to mimic CD Projekt RED’s winning formula to create something just as compelling.
Similarly, the survival-crafting genre is still as popular as ever, with games like Valheim proving that multiplayer co-op survival games are still worth your time and investment.
So if you took the survival gameplay of a game like Valheim but introduced engaging monster battles like you’d find in The Witcher 3, what would you get? Apparently you’d get Outward 2.
Outward 2 is an upcoming Steam game that’ll seemingly treat players to a survival-led adventure like no other, though with only screenshots and a brief trailer to go off, you’d be forgiven for having some doubts.

The game’s description reads: “Outward 2 is a challenging action RPG with survival elements focusing on a believable and relatable experience. There is no hand holding, no levelled encounters, no divine gift making you tower over your enemies. Eat your meal, check your map, grab your backpack: a fulfilling adventure awaits.”
Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m skeptical. I love a good survival game and while I do enjoy a lack of hand-holding in my games, sometimes it can feel more frustrating than immersive. Perhaps Outward 2 will be an exception to that rule.
I’d like to say we’ll find out soon but at the time of writing there’s no release date. The Steam page doesn’t allude to a release window and there are no demos to speak of, so for the time being, we’re in the dark.
That said, if you like games like Valheim and have played The Witcher 3 at least once, Outward 2 looks like a game worth keeping an eye on.
