Stranger Things' Steam PC Freebie is Exactly What You Need After Conformity Gate

If you loved Stranger Things you'll love this too and it wont cost you a dime

Strangers Things Season 5 ended in disappointment as viewers cling to the hope that the story isn’t over yet.

Unfortunately it is, and we all need to accept it. Fear not though as you don’t need to leave the ‘80s nostalgia behind just yet, in fact you can revel in it in this Stranger Things-esque Steam game. You can even try it for free right now.

It’s called Unusual Findings and as that tongue-and-cheek title implies it’s perfect for Stranger Things fans.

You’ll find it on the Xbox and PlayStation stores but it’s also available on Steam, along with a free demo.

Unusual Findings follows three friends who aim to solve a wide variety of mysteries, and the game’s description teases that 'your decisions really matter'. Like Stranger Things it has that quintessential ‘80s vibe, with workout videos, arcade games, box TVs, the works. If you liked the aesthetic and nostalgia of Netflix’s critically-acclaimed TV series you’ll like this.

The way it differs from Stranger Things though is its choice of threat / enemy. Stranger Things took a Dungeons & Dragons approach to its villains, treating many of them like eldritch entities. At its core the show was heavily cemented in the supernatural whereas Unusual Findings goes all-in on sci-fi with alien encounters.

I’d wholeheartedly recommend checking out the demo, as despite Stranger Things’ global appeal we’ve never had a good video game adaptation, which always felt like a missed opportunity. One does currently exist as part of your Netflix subscription though…

An Actual Stranger Things Game

Rumour has it that an official Stranger Things video game is currently in the works, from the best studio for the job.

Don’t Nod, the developer best-known for the Life is Strange games, has said in the past that it’s working on a game for one of Netflix’s biggest IPs, so surely that’s Stranger Things right?

The Stranger Things series isn’t the type that could be adapted into a platformer, shooter, or even a puzzle game, but it definitely fits the bill for a narrative-adventure game in the style of Life is Strange.

Whether it follows the main cast or tells a new story with new characters remains to be seen, but having full control over the decisions your characters make and having to live with the consequences would be excellent, and incredibly fitting.

Nothing has been confirmed yet though, so in the meantime check out Unusual Things on Steam, Xbox or PlayStation for the next best thing.
