Stranger Things Season 5 was a disappointment for many and fans are holding on to hope that it’s not actually over yet.
There’s rumour of a secret, final episode that hasn’t aired yet that’s said to address some of the issues viewers have had with the grand finale to Netflix’s biggest series. Sounds like copium to me, but you never know.
If you found yourself disappointed with the way Stranger Things wrapped up though or adored it and want the adventure to continue, keep reading, as we’ve found the game for you.
I Hate This Place, according to its description, is a “craft-based, isometric survival horror game with twisted monsters and warped reality”. It’s based on the comic book of the same name.

With gameplay from a top-down perspective and what appears to be twin-stick controls, it looks like an ace little shooter, and there’s even a free demo available on Steam right now.
What will really appeal to Stranger Things fans though is the chosen art style, as like the Netflix series, it’s directly inspired by that ‘80s look and vibe that made the show so popular.

It all comes together beautifully and since we’re probably not getting a AAA Stranger Things game anytime soon, there’s no better time to play it.

That said, there is an argument to be made that the ‘80s aesthetic has somewhat lost its charm. Sure, it was nostalgic when Stranger Things first came out and the first chapter of It also capitalised on its appeal, but we’re in 2026 now. Has too much time passed for it to truly be nostalgic anymore?
As a 26 year-old man, I unfortunately can’t provide a definitive answer on that, but it’s subjective at the end of the day.
There's a Free Demo to Sample
Anyway, I Hate This Place hasn’t been officially released at the time of writing. You can play the demo on Steam, of course, but you’ll have to wait until later this month to dive into the full thing.

Thankfully, the game isn’t just launching on Steam, it’s seeing a console release too. I Hate This Place will be playable on PlayStation, Xbox and even Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2, and it’ll probably be playable on Steam Deck too for those who don’t own a full-on PC.
I’ll certainly be giving it a go, and if the rumours of that secret Stranger Things finale turn out to be false, you’ll at least have this game to fall back on.
