Netflix has unfortunately torched any hope that Stranger Things Season 5 was hiding a secret, ninth episode that’d definitively end the story.
Stranger Things as we know it has come to an end but the Duffer Brothers aren’t finished with its world just yet, as a spin-off is already in the works that’ll be completely separate to the main show, no crossover whatsoever.
The Duffer Brothers ended the global phenomenon in explosive fashion, with the final battle being directly inspired by Baldur’s Gate 3, keeping with the Dungeons & Dragons theme quite nicely.
For fans of the main series though they’re still convinced that there’s more to come, as many believe the ending of Season 5 was a little too convenient, and there are many questions left unanswered.

7 January was when this secret ninth episode was expected to drop but it came and went without a word, and now Netflix has seemingly stepped in to say “no, that’s all folks, move on.”

The streaming giant released a four-minute promo yesterday giving subscribers a taste of what’s to come in 2026, though not a single mention of anything Stranger Things-related.
The shows that were featured amongst the line-up included Bridgerton, the Devil May Cry anime adaptation, the One Piece live-action series and more.
For the time being the only “new” Stranger Things content you’ll be getting anytime soon is a rewatch podcast by Noah Schnapps and other members of the cast. As for official material you’re out of luck.
Stranger Things’ grand finale wasn’t as bad as Game Of Thrones’ final season. Most characters got the ending they wanted/deserved but despite saving the world the losses they endured put a bit of a dampener on the whole thing. It also felt like some characters had too good of an ending, leading many to believe something was off about the whole thing.
The dominating theory is Vecna somehow won in the end, and has placed the cast in some sort of trance while he schemes and continues his plans.
It’s a nice theory but let’s face the facts, it’s all in our heads. Stranger Things has officially ended and there’s no secret episode on the way.
Work on the spin-off series is currently on the way and the details we have for it state it’ll be animated and dropping sometime later this year. Like the main series it’ll probably run for a few seasons if the first is a success.
