Steam users are absolutely roasting a new free game, and we can see why.

They say that we “shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth”. Random fact, that term comes from checking the health of a horse's teeth when it’s been given to you for free.

Regardless, even if that horse has the wonkiest teeth ever, we shouldn't complain, right? Well, to be fair, we all have a right to complain if we choose to and that even includes free games that we can claim on the PC platform, Steam.

I only recently mentioned the free zombie co-op game Darkest Days in an article along with three other titles you can now grab. However, even when being given a game for free, gamers can still feel ripped off.

“Darkest Days is a zombie shooting RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a sudden zombie outbreak,” reads the description of the game. “Explore a dark yet captivating open world, build a sanctuary with fellow survivors, grow stronger, and fight for survival.”

Well, it seems like Darkest Days isn't quite the free game we thought it was, though it is free-to-play to an extent. From what I can see on the description of its Steam page, there’s no obvious mention of in-game purchases but perhaps there very much should be.

“There is a $90 USD level 40 gun in the store and a $10/mo subscription that gives you buffs in-game. I think that's all I have to say,” exclaimed Jeremy in the user reviews section.

“Yep, this is just a mobile game ported to Steam in hopes of making money through pay-to-win,” said Griffin.

“The game is trash. It’s literally a bad copy and paste of State of Decay. Pay-to-win, and the game isn't even finished yet. Just another game created to be a cash grab to be abandoned at a later date,” said DeathtoDanny.

As you can imagine, that’s pretty much the whole tone in the user reviews section. At the time of writing, Darkest Days has a rating of “Mixed” and I expect that to change as the days pass.
