Steam Drops Odd New Free Game That's Well Worth Your Time

For the procrastinators out there

With the days slowly getting shorter and darker, it becomes harder and harder to push yourself to get up and go outside, especially with so many epic game releases on the cards for the second half of the year.

September and October lends itself to some highly anticipated game releases such as Borderlands 4, Silent Hill f, and Ghost of Yōtei to name a few so it is no doubt that many of us will be struggling to choose the outdoors over so many incredible titles.

However, one brand-new Steam game is giving you that little push to put down the controller and get some fresh air thanks to an adorable idler walking simulator.

Developed by Nementic Games, Step Away is, as mentioned, an idler walking simulator game which rewards you for, well, not playing.

Designed to make your time off-screen feel even more rewarding, players can send their little wanderers off on a walk as they go for a walk, clean up or go grocery shopping.

When they get back, they can stop their wanderers on their journey and may even find that they have earned him a new hat in the process.

To “play”, users must type in the task they are about to begin such as doing the dishes, cooking food or going for a walk and then pop their cursor into the assigned box.

Of course, your cursor will stay still in this box and as long as it stays put, your little wanderer will begin his journey.

As he gathers steps, he will slowly unlock a variety of hats to take with him on his next journey and so if you are also a fan of collectibles in games, you will also love Step Away for this reason.

“This is a super minimal experience. No pressure, no complexity, no real gameplay. Just peaceful vibes and a little guy walking while you’re AFK,” the developers shared over on Steam.

Step Away is free to download on Steam but if you wish to support the small team of developers, you can purchase the Supporter Pack for just £1.69.

As well as showing your support, the pack also includes a cute bird companion for your traveler, a peaceful night theme for the background, and a spelunker’s hat with a headlamp which will activate when the night theme is active.

Since it was added to Steam earlier this week, Step Away has already impressed fans with one positive review reading as follows:

“Throughout my life, I've explored countless apps and games, but this one evokes a comforting nostalgia, reminiscent of visiting my grandparents' farm, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

It creates a sense of relaxation, making me want to spend the day outdoors, enjoying nature and leaving all my stress behind.

This game truly helps me unwind and inspires me to tackle my tasks or pick up things I want to do.”

So if you are looking for comfort as well as a push to stop that procrastination, then Step Away may just be the perfect idler title for you.
