Travel to the twin continents of Valisthea

One of last year’s very best games has finally landed on PC, and you can check it out for free.

That game is Square Enix’s excellent Final Fantasy XVI.

This particular instalment is set within the twin continents of Valisthea which is divided into six unique nations.

Each nation has an ‘Eikon’, mythological beasts that you may know as summons, with the Eikon’s power channelled through a host.

But with a magical blight spreading throughout Valisthea, the land’s equilibrium is thrown into disarray.

Naturally, there’s only one person who can see to this threat - that’s you.

Players assume the role of Clive Rosfield, portrayed by Ben Starr.

In our console review, we rated a nine, writing, “Final Fantasy XVI is truly an epic adventure. It has a fantastical story, over-the-top character performances, a sublime soundtrack, epic boss battles and it looks gorgeous to boot.”

“Seriously, what’s there not to love about this game? It doesn't matter if you’re a veteran of the series or a newcomer like me, Final Fantasy XVI is one of 2023’s most brilliantly extravagant adventures and a sure-fire contender for Game of the Year,” it continued.

Take a look at Final Fantasy XVI in action below.

As of 19 August, the game is also now available on PC.

I’m here to tell you that if you’re yet to give it a whirl, you should think about changing that - especially as you can do so for free.

Prospective players can head over to Steam to sample a free demo of Final Fantasy XVI which features the opening section of the game.

If you do enjoy what you play and decide to pick up the full game, progress will carry over.

I will warn you and say that the demo is somewhat dialogue and cutscene heavy, but that’s to be expected when you’re being introduced to a sprawling world and narrative.

There’s enough combat in there though to give you a juicy taste of what’s to come in the wider game.

Some users have experienced performance issues but testimony differs on this greatly from player to player, so do bear that in mind.
