Final Fantasy's newest RPG drops 5/5 free taster on PS5, Xbox, Switch & PC for all users

Final Fantasy fans can download a free demo right now, offering a nostalgic return to the classic RPG era while bringing back one of the franchise's most infamous villains.

The Final Fantasy RPG series from Square Enix is one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time, making every new release a major event for its devoted fanbase. The upcoming arrival of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the conclusion to the remake project that began in 2020, will certainly be no exception.

However, while fans eagerly await Final Fantasy VII Revelation, another Final Fantasy adventure is on the horizon, and you can get your hands on it more than a month before its full release.

Final Fantasy Resonance takes the series back to the nostalgic days of classic RPGs, complete with charming sprite visuals, traditional turn-based combat and plenty of familiar Final Fantasy elements. In fact, it’s considered to be a reimagining of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, which was originally released in 2015.

A Final Fantasy Resonance demo is out now

Despite the full game not launching until October 22, 2026, the Final Fantasy Resonance demo is available to play right now on PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2, so you don’t need to wait to get an early taste of Square Enix’s latest RPG.

What’s more, your save data from the Final Fantasy Resonance demo will carry over into the full game. That means if you decide to pick up the full release next month, you’ll be able to pick up exactly where you left off.

What is Final Fantasy Resonance?

“Return to the pixel‑art world of Final Fantasy, evolved from its classic roots. Travel with companions bound by fate and call on Visions to aid you in battle to uncover the truth behind a force that threatens to bring everything to ruin,” reads the synopsis of the game.

It features classic turn-based combat, gorgeous pixel-art visuals, plenty of side content and even some very familiar faces from across the Final Fantasy franchise, including Cloud, Lightning, Clive Rosfield, Sephiroth and many more.

What is the community saying about Final Fantasy Resonance?

While it’s still too early for a meaningful collection of user reviews, the Final Fantasy Resonance demo is already making a strong impression on PlayStation Store users.

At the time of writing, the demo boasts an impressive five-star rating from more than 1,000 user reviews, which hopefully bodes well for the full game’s release next month.

And if you prefer to own your games physically, there’s more good news: Final Fantasy Resonance will receive a physical disc release alongside its digital version, so you’ll have the option of picking up a boxed copy when the full game launches.

As for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, that will be released on April 8, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
