I feel like gorgeous RPGs are 10 to a penny nowadays, but there are still some surprises out there, showcasing visuals that will knock your socks off.
There’s currently a demo over on Steam for the game Fallen Tear: The Ascension, and if you like RPGs combined with metroidvania gameplay, you’re in luck.
The stunning, colourful visuals here, really set apart Fallen Tear from other metroidvanias on the market and vying for your attention.

In this adventure, you play as Hira, a mysterious young boy on the hunt for details of his forgotten past.
Throughout the adventure, you’ll unlock skills and abilities to overcome obstacles and enemies, with branching skill trees and plenty of combat options.
Developed with classic hand-drawn animation, there’s a cartoon quality to the graphics that make this one feel like it could be a TV crossover, or a brand-new anime franchise.
It’s a captivating style that is sure to look wonderful throughout.

Noted for having a massive, sprawling world to explore, the developers say that players will experience “a seemingly boundless world where you will fight dangerous beasts, defy corrupt gods, and face a multitude of challenges all in an attempt to bring balance back to your world”.
I don’t know about anyone else, but this has jumped straight onto my Steam wishlist, so I can keep an eye on it.
There are some obvious Hollow Knight vibes here, but it’s also reminding me of the recent metroidvania spin-off, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.
The cast of characters feels unique and interesting, bursting with personality and charm.

If Fallen Tear: The Ascension has caught your eye too, the demo should give you a little taste of what to expect.
Unfortunately, there’s no firm release date noted on the Steam page, so we’re going to have to hope that this is revealed soon.
