This upcoming Skyrim and classic PlayStation-inspired RPG look stunning, and we need it in our lives right now.
When it comes to feel-good moments, perhaps nothing hits harder than fond memories of yesteryear, especially when it comes to retro video games. Sure, we all have tinted rose goggles to an extent when it comes to graphics, but the feeling we get is no lie.
We all have memories playing our favourite video games as children, whether it’s on PC, the SEGA Mega Drive, NES, heck, I’d even throw the Atari Jaguar into that mix. I know, the latter console sucked as a whole, but it gave us Aliens vs Predator, so I’ll let it off.
In recent years, talented indie developers have been playing on our nostalgic emotions to mostly great effect. Video games with modernised gameplay but with a visual art style inspired by the 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit eras, for example.

One game that comes to mind is the quite fantastic Alisa, developed by Casper Croes, initially released in 2021. Alisa looks like it's straight out of the PS1’s survival horror golden age. If you love retro horror games, go check that out now.
Another game that looks to be inspired by the original PlayStation era is this upcoming RPG developed by Starhelm Studios. If The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim were released in the 90s, it would be the game that is the topic of this article.
The game in question is called Project Shadowglass. Granted, its current name leaves a lot to be desired, but there’s no denying that its trailer showcases the game's potential, clear as day.
“A stealth-focused immersive sim set within a dark fantasy kingdom,” reads the description of the game on Steam. “Plan daring heists, infiltrate forbidden locales, and escape with priceless artefacts. Features revolutionary 3D pixel art graphics and lasting consequences where every action could leave a trail back to you.”

“The aesthetic is so damn cosy,” said GabrielKDG.
“Amazing style... and the music is incredible too,” replied Dangoss.
“3D pixel art in an RPG? That’s a visual feast I didn’t know I needed,” exclaimed www_Geek.
At the time of writing, Project Shadowglass does not have a release date, but you can add it to your Steam wishlist to be notified when it’s ready to launch.
