Nintendo fans have been living with a level of anxiety since the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 in June of 2025, about the price of the newest Nintendo console. With a base price that is already much higher than the original Switch, additional price hikes could seriously impact those looking to upgrade.
Unfortunately, a mixture of ongoing problems may finally drive Nintendo to raise prices on the Switch 2 during 2026. The Switch 2 has struggled to balance the cost of the console against tariffs, and while the console itself has remained at the same price as it was at launch, accessories have already seen notable increases.
Now, in a new report from Bloomberg, it seems as though price hikes may be inevitable, and it is due to the same issues currently impacting Steam Deck console availability.
AI Demand Hits Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles With RAM Shortage
In a post citing the Bloomberg article, Pokemon and Nintendo leaker CentroLeaks has commented on the possible price hikes, warning players that price hikes are coming, and it could also impact the eventual release of the PlayStation 6.
Currently, technology manufacturing has been hit by RAM shortages caused by AI data center demand. Companies that used to supply memory to console manufacturers have been offloading the bulk of their production to these AI warehouses, leaving Nintendo, among other developers, without any to place in devices.

In addition to this, the price of RAM has skyrocketed, making what is available costly to obtain. Until now, Nintendo has been absorbing the cost, but it isn’t likely that it will continue doing so as the year progresses. It has also been indicated that a possible PlayStation 6 console could be delayed to as late as 2029.
Those who have not yet purchased a Nintendo Switch 2 may want to do so sooner rather than later. It isn’t known what the price hikes might look like, but it could be high enough to make the console unaffordable for most families and gamers.
