Nintendo has given a price update for the Switch 2, but some fans are still torn on what it could mean for the affordability of the console.
When the Switch 2 received a full reveal earlier this month, Nintendo had initially announced the console would be launching with a $449.99 price tag for US customers.
However, following the announced tariffs from President Trump, Nintendo later delayed the pre-order date for retailers amid fears the Switch 2 price could rise even higher.

Now, Nintendo has announced that the upcoming console will be available for pre-order from selected retailers on 24th April. The company also revealed that the price will remain the same at $449.99.
The Mario Kart World bundle also remains unchanged at $499.99, as well as the pricing for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99).

"$40 Screen Protector? Is it made out of vibranium?" wrote one comment on Reddit.
"Judging by the careful wording, I wouldn’t be surprised if future games tend to be $80 more often than $70," another comment wrote.
Another commenter was more optimistic, writing: "Realistically given everything, this is probably the best outcome we could have hoped for. Console and games are the big thing and those at least didn't go up. Accessories going up isn't as bad since Switch 1 controllers will work with Switch 2 and that's the sort of thing that does tend to go on sale for Black Friday."
Historically, Nintendo doesn't tend to discount its products as heavily as Sony or Microsoft does with their hardware.

However, considering we're already seeing PlayStation consoles rise in price, it's possible all three console manufacturers may tighten their grip on discounting their hardware.
