The Scott Pilgrim EX demo has just dropped on Steam, and it’s a good chance to check out the new action brawler ahead of its release.
Last year, it was announced that Tribute Games was working on a new video game based on the Scott Pilgrim franchise.
Titled Scott Pilgrim EX, it will be the second game based on the comic books, featuring an original story by series’ creator Bryan Lee O’Malley and acts as a sequel to the 2023 anime Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
Releasing on 3 March, Scott Pilgrim EX takes a lot of the same notes as Ubisoft’s 2010 game which was remastered for modern systems in 2023.
Scott Pilgrim EX Is A Love Letter To Retro Brawler And Beat-Em-Up Games
In Scott Pilgrim EX, which is a mix of brawler and action-adventure, you can fight as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers and five other characters from the series as they battle through the fractured time and space of Toronto.

In this story, three rival gangs have taken over the city: the Vegans, the Robots, and the Demons, and it’s up to you to put a stop to it.
The city features a bunch of interconnected levels where you’ll meet characters and go to locations that were featured in the comic books and anime.

As Tribute Games puts it, the combat is “driven by instinct and improvisation”, featuring a “hectic ballet of fists and flair that rewards strategy, spontaneity, and a good bit of brawling chaos”.
This is done by stringing together a stylish set of combos, and experimenting with wacky weapons and over-the-top special attacks.
Meanwhile, you can upgrade your characters by collecting special badges which allow you to enhance their stats and give them special bonuses, encouraging you to experiment with different moves and combo sets.
In addition to that, Scott Pilgrim EX also has support for four-player multiplayer in the form of cooperative gameplay, which can be played locally or online, pitting you and your mates against the rival gangs that have hit Toronto.
If you’d like to check out the game, it’s available now as a free demo on Steam.
Launched yesterday, the Scott Pilgrim EX demo allows you to experience the opening sections of the game to get a feel for whether you’d enjoy it or not.
You can download the demo for Scott Pilgrim EX by downloading it directly from Steam now.
