If you’re a fan of cosy gaming, there’s a certain release you’re going to want to put on your wishlist as we head into 2026.

Those that tuned into the recent Wholesome Snack 2025 Showcase will have caught a new glimpse at the upcoming Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth; a new trailer was debuted celebrating the character’s 80th anniversary.

At today’s Day of the Devs event, developer Hyper Games stopped by with a secondary surprise, shadow dropping a demo for the cosy adventure title which is available to sample on Steam now.

If this is the first you’re hearing of Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth, it follows in the footsteps of Hyper Games’ prior release Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, also set within Tove Jansson’s acclaimed Moomin universe.

This is, I should stress, a standalone title though.

As I mentioned, it’s an adventure game that sees Moomintroll journey across a frost-covered Moominvalley after he awakens during winter hibernation.

“The familiar landscape of Moominvalley is now cloaked in the frosty veil of the Lady of the Cold,” the synopsis teases.

“Initially seeking someone to care for him and longing to banish winter, young Moomintroll reluctantly embarks on a journey into the unknown, learning to forge new friendships and help those in greater need than himself.”

If this has piqued your interest, you can already dive into a sample of the game with a demo now available on PC via Steam.

Currently, that’s the only platform Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is confirmed for, although in a press release, it did list consoles as “TBD” so that’s something.

Our Hands-On Demo Impressions

I had the chance to go hands-on with Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth’s new demo ahead of its public release, and it’s left me yearning to get my hands on the full game.

Lasting only for about 15-minutes, the demo epitomises cosy gaming, including all of the benchmarks you could hope to find.

What really impressed me is just how beautiful Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is to look at; Hyper Games has so perfectly captured the world of this franchise, using a painterly quality in formulating the game’s world.

It’s quite breathtaking and never became any less so during the entirety of this bite-sized experience.

Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth classes itself as a “story-driven, cosy puzzle adventure”, and I certainly got a small taste of the puzzling and adventure elements in this demo.

I had to transport a dog, Sorry-oo to those in the know, back to its home.

This journey included me chopping down wooden logs in our way, dashing through snow-covered bushes, and more generally shovelling snow to clear our path.

I also had to time my movement, taking shelter behind rocks to avoid a series of blustery gails throughout the experience, otherwise myself and Sorry-oo would be sent shooting backwards.

As is the nature with cosy games, Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth was rather easy on the difficulty scale, but its world was so cosy, inviting, and charming that I’m desperately eager to undertake the full experience.

Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is the type of game that I sense will be perfect to relax and unwind to, and that’s really what cosy gaming is all about; it’s definitely a title I can’t wait for in 2026.

It’s a game I can very easily recommend, so go sample the demo and wishlist the title if your interest has at all been piqued.
