Pokémon is the most successful and profitable media franchise of all time, generating over 115 billion dollars between the various video games movies and TCG releases, since debuting in 1996.
As such, it is little surprise that over the years there have been a ton of imitators who try to capture just a small portion of that same lightning in a bottle, hopefully to create some success stories of their own.
Palworld is probably the recent example that will spring to most people's minds immediately, with that game definitely presenting some... Major similarities. Eventually, it caused quite a public legal dispute between the developer of the game and those invested in the Pokémon property.
Others choose to be a little more subtle in their replications of Pokémon’s most iconic features. The creature collector genre has become increasingly popular, with some genuinely original efforts for players to enjoy.

In the developer’s own words, “Begin your journey in Zenith, a land teeming with powerful monsters known as Creo. As shadowy organizations rise and ancient secrets stir, your personal quest to find your missing father leads you into the heart of a much larger mystery. At the same time, can you rise through the ranks and become a true Evoking Master?”
The game is presented in a way that immediately evokes memories of the early to middle generations of Pokémon games. I think it's low-key giving Generation 5, meets the early Team Rocket energy of Generation 1. Got to say, I do like the graphical fidelity and the nice colours.
Fans of the Pokémon games from the 2000s may point at some story similarities from Red and Blue, with players tasked with uncovering the dark truth about a shadowy organization known as the Shadow Hive.
There are over 170 Creo to collect across the course of your journey with many themed around the various biomes that you'll find them in.

If you're into the EV/IV side of Pokemon battles, you'll also find a ton of depth to how you build your team of creatures and you'll be able to fine tune their skill sets and overall abilities, in order to make sure that you have everything you need to defeat the game's hardest enemies. I hope it's slightly less painful than hunting down bottle caps in Hyper Lumiose.
There's a free demo available to download right now from the Steam page, and if you like it, then the full game is available to purchase for a relatively low price of £8.50.
Not feeling it? We've found a Pokémon x Palword inspired creature catcher that might just scratch your itch. And yes - they are different games. Scroll down to find out more!
