Fallout, Valheim Collide in New Post-Apocalyptic RPG

Survival of the fittest

If you like the gameplay of Valheim but prefer the aesthetic and theme of the Fallout universe, then this game might just be for you.

There’s no shortage of sandbox survival games nowadays, and I’d actually argue we have too many, in addition to soulslikes trying too hard to be the next Elden Ring.

That said, every now and then a game comes along that actually catches your eye, and Misery is just that.

It’s a game you can find on Steam at the moment and while you can’t play it just yet, you will be able to next month when it launches.

Misery’s description says it’s "a one to five player co-op survival game set in a nuclear disaster zone".

"Here, every day is a struggle: search radioactive ruins for resources, build your bunker, craft weapons, and explore a weird, procedurally-generated world with your friends. Beware of anomalies, monsters, and armed bandits."

It’s got that post-apocalyptic setting that made the Fallout games so compelling, as well as a lot in common with the Stalker games. I’m a big fan of its simplistic art style too, which makes it stand out against many other games in the genre.

Call it a stretch, but I even think it has a few similarities to The Last Of Us as well, but perhaps that’s only because the gameplay footage shows one player strumming a guitar by a campfire.

There will, of course, be plenty of dangers to face in this radioactive world but at least you won’t have to explore it alone, as four players can join you on your quest for survival.

One of the dangers will apparently be an atomic bomb that can drop randomly whilst exploring, with the player needing to find shelter within 60 seconds before it impacts.

So far, it’s looking great - and with it apparently being playable on a Steam Deck, I’m certainly up for giving it a go.

At the time of writing, there are a few weeks left until we can get our hands on it, as the game’s release date is 23 October.

Hopefully, it’s got enough depth to keep players around long-term, and if it becomes successful, it’d be great to see it get expanded with PvP and maybe even a console release if we’re lucky.

For now though, we’re counting down the days until 23 October when we can finally give Misery a go.
