Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a game you don’t hear about much nowadays but if you’ve ever wondered what it’d be like as an open-world RPG this is it.
Open-world survival RPGs are nothing too but they can be incredibly fun, especially when you can play with friends.
MAZEBOUND: Hunt, Gather, Run! feels like one of those games as you try to survive a harsh, restrictive world either alone or with a team.
You can find MAZEBOUND: Hunt, Gather, Run! on Steam and its description reads: “In this survival horror, you're surrounded by sea and a towering gate ahead. Walk into the maze, hunt, gather, and run to survive, alone or with friends. Remember: You're not the only one starving…”

If you’ve played games like Valheim it’ll probably be your cup of tea, though it’s not out just yet so be sure to add it to your wishlist if you’re interested.
The gameplay shows players exploring a world that’s pure nightmare-fuel, tearing apart the environment for whatever materials they can get their hands on. The structures seen in the game look wild so I’d imagine you’ll be checking your map often so you don’t get lost in the fog.
I’m also quite fond of the enormous hand that can be seen in the sky. I don’t know what it is or if it has a purpose outside of just looking cool but I’m a big fan of it, and would imagine standing underneath it could be quite anxiety-inducing.
Rather than looking up though you’ll probably want to look ahead most of the time as there are enemies to fight or flee from in the game. It’s hard to make out what they are in the darkness but I’d guess they never quite stop being terrifying.

All in all MAZEBOUND: Hunt, Gather, Run! looks very impressive so it’s a shame we have to wait a while longer for it to come out.
At the time of writing the game is scheduled for release in 2026 around Q2, though of course that could change in the studio making it, Absam Studios, wants to give it a little longer to cook.
Hopefully nearer to the game’s release we get a demo or a beta to play, as it’s a world that’s just dying to be explored, especially with a group of friends.
