Troubles at launch aside, Cyberpunk 2077 is a pretty remarkable game now. The continued work from CD Projekt RED to improve performance and add content has done more than enough to make Night City as compelling as possible.
That said, it's very difficult to have too much of a good thing in gaming, and if the early footage of NEO BERLIN 2087 is anything to go by, Cyberpunk 2077 might finally have some genuine competition in the genre.
As the name suggests, the game is set in a "dark future" version of Germany's capital, Berlin. There, the head of the city's police department has been brutally murdered and his daughter is in immediate danger as a result.
Fortunately, we get to take control of grizzled detective Nolan as he seeks to safeguard the daughter's life and solve the mystery behind the death of her father. To do this, Nolan has access to a bunch of cool futuristic tools, including the ability to hack into people's minds to extract answers and find clues in ways that everyone else would miss.

The game also features a second area outside of the main city known simply as the "Wasteland". This serves as the harshest potential environment for players, with ammo and supplies difficult to come by and deadly machines roaming freely.
The story will also feature some elements of choice, with the priority being to deliver a cinematic experience in which players will have to confront difficult moral dilemmas directly.
Played in both third and first-person, NEO BERLIN 2087 looks very ambitious from a team that's considerably smaller than CD Projekt RED or any other AAA developer. There is currently no scheduled release date for the full game, so we might be waiting a little while yet before we can get our hands on it.
