Skyrim Unreal Engine 5 remake makes Windhelm way bigger than you remember

Look at the size of it

The true scope of Skyrim’s size has been revealed through the “realistic” reimagining of Windhelm.

Utilising Unreal Engine 5, YouTuber Leo Torres has been able to show us just how large the “oldest city in Skyrim” is, and wow, it’s massive.

No, seriously, you’re going to be shocked at just how large it really is.

Walking around it as a player in a 13 year old game is one thing, seeing it visualised as a realistic, true-to-size settlement is another.

Skyrim's Windhelm looks incredible

This is “part of an ongoing project to visualise a more realistic and lore-accurate scale to Tamriel’s cities”, Torres explained.

“So here’s Windhelm – now with sixteen times the detail! The purpose of this project was to get a large-scale concept of what a city of this size would really be like in real life, removed from gameplay, story and technical limitations,” they continued.

This showcase isn’t a mod or expansion for you to download, but rather a way of further connecting with the rich world of The Elder Scrolls.

It’s gone down a treat with Bethesda fans.

“Seeing a new 'True size of Skyrim' pop up genuinely makes my entire day better,” commented @Turgon_.

YouTube user @stevethegrandmarshall9916 posted, “Absolutely fantastic! Mind-blowing to see the capital of the true High King as it should be! This project has been absolutely incredible, and it really brings my favourite game to life, so thank you!”

What best summarises our collective awe is this comment from @woodyz611.

They said, “I don’t usually comment, but I gotta say, these videos are truly amazing. The energy and atmosphere you bring to each city is incredible [...] You're capturing the spirit of living there, and you nail it every time.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Seeing this Unreal Engine creation has us daydreaming about The Elder Scrolls VI.
